A lot of my most recent work has been inspired not just by the New Forest but by Ted Hughes’ poem “The horses” which could have been written about the part of the forest where I live. To walk here is to see the light constantly changing and to intrude upon the wildlife whose home this is.
The horses that feature in my work are, of course, the native breed of New Forest ponies.
The doves are mine though they are free flying. I started with a dozen and now have at least two hundred.
Etching is a lengthy process involving many different stages but sitting before a piece of paper with some paint is much simpler but no easier. It is an unforgiving medium, perhaps the most difficult of the three I work in.
